In the romantic comedy, 50 First Dates, the main character, Lucy Whitmore, suffers from anterograde amnesia. Although the idea that her slate is wiped clean every night while she sleeps, and the name of her condition (Goldfield Syndrome) are fictional, the way that her memory loss condition affects her life and her family's lives as well is very realistic. Additionally, the character "Ten Second Tom" is a great example of a severe form of anterograde amnesia. His memory span only lasts ten seconds, allowing him to live a life without the ability to create new memories even for just a day.
retrograde amnesiaIn the romanctic movie, The Vow, Paige suffers from a severe form of retrograde amnesia, due to her inability to remember her husband or her entire life before her accident. Paige only seems to remember her far past before she ever met her husband, Channing Tatum's character. Her entire past with him was erased, and her memories were new regained.
BOTHThe Disney film, Finding Dory, allows the viewers to learn more about Dory's short-term memory loss. Because Dory struggles to make new memories, she suffers from anterograde amnesia, however, the fact that Dory cannot remember her family and how she got lost in the first place shows a form of retrograde amnesia.
